A Summer's Respite, Albeit A Brief One

I am truly sorry. But it is summer in New Hampshire, which means there is a weekend of warm sunshine that has fallen upon us. Sadly, I must report that there are other chores to do than write essays for Contratimes. I must be off here and there for a few days, no doubt running around pell-mell for who-knows-what. But I will return soon. I promise.

In the meantime, you may want to tour some of the sites of my lovely friends listed in the right hand column of this page. Or, if you can't resist, you can always look at my essays from last year's Fourth of July weekend (which is a big holiday here in America -- the Fourth that is, not my essays). I particularly liked "Kneeling At The Corner Of Church And Liberty", though I was pleased with how "Dissenting Toward Deep Impact" finally turned out. Of course, the latter might leave you nonplussed by my comparison of deep space exploration -- The Deep Impact project -- with the collapse of the World Trade Center. But there is a point to be found there, and I think it is not only a clear one; it is an important one.

Enjoy your life away from here. Go play croquet; go drift lazily about on a tube on a lake. Look up and promise the sky that you will never again forget that blue.

Peace.

Those ferns are beautiful. I have some growing in my backyard, but they aren't nearly as lush as those ones!
