Saunterings: Anthony Esolen Is A Very Busy Bellhop

You should saunter on over to Infinity Hotel, an essay managed with eloquence and capacious insight by Touchstone contributor Anthony Esolen. Can I erase from infinity's face the fact that I embarrassed myself at Mr. Esolen's fine forum by posting an utterly lame -- and probably heretical -- comment? Numbers, for me, really are numb-ers, if you get my drift. I mean, when I go to the dentist, I don't ask for Novocaine, I ask for numbers.

I would also suggest yesterday's Opinion Journal post by James Taranto, particularly the tragic and ironic story about the collapsed sewer system in Gaza. I have a gut-feeling that the whole story reported by Taranto -- with the help of the Jerusalem Post -- will not get much play. It is all very sad.

Peace this day.

"One of the major consequences of the 9/11 movement has been to draw enormous amounts of energy and effort away from activism directed to real and ongoing crimes of state, and their institutional background, crimes that are far more serious than blowing up the WTC would be, if there were any credibility to that thesis. That is, I suspect, why the 9/11 movement is treated far more tolerantly by centers of power than is the norm for serious critical and activist work."
