I have to agree with those commentators who have opined that the clear winner in last night's so-called "Beer Summit" was Sgt. James Crowley. He has maintained a level of dignity, decorum and self-control throughout this whole episode that is truly reassuring. He has stayed within himself, he has not over-reached or over-spoken or over-reacted. He is the epitome of cool calm.
And he is quite resistant to beer pressure, even when it comes from the most popular man in the world.
Good for him.

I agree with you about this cool hand luke type of a man. Sgt. Crowley just doing his job with ruckus swirling around.He's yelled at from an irate homeowner and he's just doing his job. It makes headlines and he continues to just do his job. Sure, I'll come to the White House, he's just doing his job. Where are the statements being ushered from his mouth. This is the very type of a person that has always impressed me, the one who never seeks the limelight and even when it hits still doesn't seek it. He's just doing his job.

Notice, too, Lynne, that he NEVER got flustered by the press corps -- or the limelight, as you called it. My sense from his press conferences and other similar moments is that this is a guy who takes perhaps even an inordinate pride in maintaining self-control. It's almost a competitive streak; he's not going to show that he can be rattled, flustered, flummoxed -- under ANY circumstance.
Watching Sgt. Crowley, I suspect he was not given to "over-reaction" with Prof. Gates as asserted by Mr. Obama. He is too proud for that. Over-reaction, to him, shows weakness. Did he seem "awed" by Mr. Obama, the White House, the attention? No. Not one whit.
