Fouad Ajami -- again.

Should the article at this link be mandatory reading? You decide. (And then let me know.)

Saw this a few days ago and bookmarked it, intending to post my thoughts. Suffice to say, Ajami is spot-on. What amazes me, is that we are continually told that this administration contains all these very, very smart people. Political underpinnings and philosophy aside, it has been misstep after misstep for this crew.

One example is the corner into which Obama has painted himself with the terror trials in NYC. His rabid base will expect kinder, gentler treatment akin to Americans accused of crimes. If the administration tries tosses out ostensibly bad evidence because it was obtained contra the Constitution by Bush and company, it will immediately lose a huge swath of the center that it (and its allies in congress) needs for reelection.

If it goes full bore for convictions and in the process tries to use the ostensibly tainted evidence to satisfy the electorate (not to mention national security concerns) he a)ticks off the base and b)essentially concedes that what Bush did was correct under the circumstances, thereby putting the lie to several years of Democratic demagoguery in the process.

And that's one of many. Further the administration shows no signs of "getting" it. I cannot remember a more tone deaf bunch in my life time.

(Thanks for the kind words today, BTW.)

Cheers.
