One Reason To Feel Like Laughing (At A Party)

I want to know what you think.

The other day the New York Times highlighted part of a comment left by a reader in the comments thread of Paul Krugman's op-ed, "The Resentment Strategy." Here is the link to the comment, and here is the clip the Times featured at its website:

"The Republicans are the party of feelings and the Democrats are more the party of reason."-- Mark, Providence, RI

Mark's assertion not only seems a likely inversion of the truth, it seems to be a perfect example of projection. Am I wrong in finding this comment wildly funny? Am I wrong for enjoying the delightful absurdity that this comment is attached to a Paul Krugman column? (I mean, if anyone knows resentment, it's Paul Krugman.) Am I wrong for perceiving this all as wonderfully ironic?

The party of reason!

(I promise to explore this conceit† more fully in the next few days.)

Lest I Forget? Well, I Did!

Once again, the inimitable James Taranto deserves praise here, especially for this rather apt reminder:
