Spinning The Austin Tragedy

Minutes ago, CNN reported that a man in Austin, Texas torched his own house, stole a plane, and flew it into a 7-story building which housed an IRS office.

Let's see. How will this be spun? How will the leftist blogosphere exegete this man's actions (assuming CNN has reported the truth)?

How about the "teabagger" trope?

How about "the logical outcome of Tea Party outrage"?

How about "right-wing extremism inspired by Timothy McVeigh"?

How about "the building was intentionally bombed by Bush loyalists still working in the FBI, CIA and Secret Service in an attempt to draw America into a war based entirely on lies; bombs were strategically placed throughout the building and the plane was actually a diversion flown via remote control"?

How about... this guy is typical of America. His situation and feelings are typical. His outrage is typical. Only how he handled it was unique.

This is going to become more common as we reap the fruit of decades worth of conservative error seeds. I imagine they look like sesame.

Eight years under Bush, and liberals don't lash out violently like immature babies. Doesn't take that long under a Dem for the conservative nut jobs to come crawling out of their buried school bus bunkers.

*shrug* Where were the crazy liberals blowing stuff up under Bush? If I forgot something, jar my memory (they were college years for me, afterall).

Conservatives fan the flames on violence daily with language indicating treachery and revolution, then the calmer among you act indignant when the obvious results present themselves? Puh-lease.

I bet the farm this guy's home was being foreclosed on, so he torched it ["If I can't have it, no one can"]. Then he flies a plane into the IRS because that's who the Glenn Beck man on TV who comforts him in his delusions said is taking all his money.

The sad thing? No one's going to do anything, like provide financial help for people who are still at this moment in his position. We have a nation filled with millions of people with nothing to lose. We shouldn't just sit back watching the fireworks.

Your solution? Diffuse the whole situation as an indictment against liberals and their "agenda" through the use of "reality," while continuing with business as usual as America's top industry slowly becomes violence. Why not consider giving these people "hand-outs" as we cope with the harshest economic times we have experienced in most of our lifetimes?

Like I said: reaping, sowing, sesame seeds.

Ginx,

Thanks for the comments. Interesting.

It's hard to say from his last note, but I think the last couple lines indicate he wasn't even conservative.

From page 6:

"The communist creed: From each according to his ability, to each according to his need.
The capitalist creed: From each according to his gullibility, to each according to his greed."

This guy sounds like he's basically been fucked around by everyone (or feels he has). Until those last lines, I wouldn't have guessed he was pro-Communist, though he does state earlier that he is appalled at the government for bailing out corporations while the American medical system is in shambles.

Between this guy's actions and my post this morning, maybe there was just something in the air...

This incident is so sad on so many levels, and the tragedy transcends any Red Vs Blue or liberal vs conservative battle lines. The focus should be on that at least one person and maybe others are dead, while other innocent victims were hurt or tramatized, including this man's own family. My heart goes out to everyone involved.

As soon as it happened, I too predicted the leftwing blogosphere and punditocracy would try to spin the situation to smear tea partiers. It takes only a couple of minutes reading through comments at Daily Kos to see that this process is already well underway.

If you read the man's manifesto it's fascinating that he never mentions Obama but clearly had no love for Bush.

More significant than his political affiliation (which appears to be all over the map) is the man's unmistakable self-absorption and persecution complex. Political pundits from both sides of the liberal-conservative spectrum may try to exegete the meaning of the plane attack, but ultimately it doesn't appear to be much more than one man's self-absortion and desperation.

I concur with Milton's assessment that the man clearly had a persecution complex. To be fair, the right have been spinning it as well.
