Ain't "No Foreign Policies" In Alaska

I find this incredibly amusing: The New York Times reports that Gov. Sarah Palin has not traveled much outside the United States. Apparently the governor did not receive her passport until 2007 when she needed to travel to Kuwait to visit the Alaska National Guard deployed there.

One can conclude (and surely some will) that Gov. Palin has no foreign policy experience at all.

But I must make ask a question or two: Am I wrong for believing that some Democrats in the lower-48 believe Alaska IS a foreign country? And doesn't the fact that Gov. Palin hails from Alaska disqualify her from serving as vice president since Alaska is not only not American (at least to some Democrats), it doesn't even have any stinkin' "foreign policies"?

For a laugh (or a cry), check out the video blog below from a "Big Time" Barack Obama supporter who is utterly committed to "getting out" the youth vote. Despite the rather indecorous language (the F- and MF-bombs), the video contains some delicious "ditties," so to speak, especially near the end. Foreign policies, indeed.

ccording to a recent National Geographic Society survey, 70 percent of 18- to 24-year-old Americans can't find New Jersey on a map. In other words, the whole of the United States is one big foreign country. Thus, Gov. Palin has plenty of foreign policy experience.

Bill,

That is funny. One could also say that any policy the Democrats formulate is foreign. In fact, one might conclude based on their fast and loose interpretations of the Constitution or any laws for that matter, that the word "policy" and "Democrat" are oxymoronic.

Correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't Alaska share a border with one foreign country and within 50+- miles of another?

Peace,

Chris

Bill,

I wonder what license the Democrat attack machine will now take with McCain's age and health, now that he's picked his running mate. Attacking Palin for her lack of experience only focuses the blinding light of scrutiny on Obama, but one way to obliquely attack Palin's experience is to exploit the one heart beat away scenario.

Peace,

Chris

Chris,

Let's talk geography!

What's the northernmost point in the United States? What's the westernmost point in the United States? What's the EASTERNMOST point in the United States?

Answers? Well, there is only ONE answer: Alaska.

And what is the SOUTHERNMOST state? Yeah, that's right, Hawaii, birthplace of Barack Obama.

So Palin's got the northern/western hemisphere pretty well covered (and with coordinates like hers, she's GOT to be foreign). And somehow, Barack Obama winds up being a southerner.

I wonder if Sean Coombs knows that there aren't any "foreign policies" in Hawaii, either? But "Arrggghhh!" I stand corrected, doomed by my own forgetfulness: America is one big stinkin' foreign country. There's "foreign policies" everywhere! (Or was Sean just mispronouncing "police." Surely the police aren't that foreign to the Puffster.)

Peace.

Actually, Alaska shares a border with Russia, between Little and Big Diomede Islands.

Yours in geographic trivia.

Rand,

So right! In fact, Alaska is surrounded by two communist countries, Russia and Canada.

Peace and mirth!

PS. And to you literalists out there, that last comment is a joke. Russia is NOT a communist country.

Hah!

It is a formerly communist country run by what was formerly the KGB and its former henchmen.

By the way, maybe Sarah Palin can find out what happened to Former Congressman Hale Boggs.
